Tigo in Wadadli Solar Operations

Tigo is primarily encountered in two contexts:

  1. Rapid shutdown compliance — adding NEC-compliant rapid shutdown to existing SMA or other string systems without replacing the inverter
  2. Retrofit optimization — adding per-panel optimization to a shaded string system to recover lost production

Tigo is not a microinverter — it works with the existing DC string architecture and the existing string inverter. The Tigo units are add-on hardware that provides MLPE functionality at the module level.

Key Tigo Concept: MLPE Without Inverter Replacement

Unlike SolarEdge (which requires a SolarEdge inverter) or Enphase (which replaces all inverters), Tigo TS4 units can work with most existing string inverters. This makes them valuable for:

  • Rapid shutdown compliance on systems that predate NEC 2017
  • Shade optimization without full system redesign
  • Cost-effective retrofit on aging-but-functional systems
