SolarEdge SetApp — Legacy Reference

LEGACY REFERENCE

SolarEdge GO is the current operational platform

For new installations, current commissioning workflows, fleet management, and diagnostics, use SolarEdge GO. SetApp remains relevant for older inverters and legacy systems where GO has limited compatibility.

SetApp is SolarEdge's original Bluetooth commissioning and diagnostics application. It connects directly to the inverter via Bluetooth for local configuration and troubleshooting — no internet connection required.

When you will still encounter SetApp: - Older SolarEdge inverters (pre-HD-Wave era or older firmware) - Legacy site documentation that references SetApp workflows - Backup local diagnostic method when GO has connectivity issues - Sites not yet migrated to GO fleet management

App Setup

  • Available on iOS and Android
  • Requires a SolarEdge installer account
  • Pair via Bluetooth to the inverter's built-in BLE interface
  • Range: ~10 meters (closer is better in noisy RF environments)

Key SetApp Functions

Used for new installations and post-replacement verification:

  1. Connect to inverter via Bluetooth
  2. Site configuration — system size, grid parameters, country/grid code
  3. Grid compliance verification — SetApp runs automatic grid detection
  4. Optimizer pairing — scan QR codes or auto-pair
  5. Production test — verify all optimizers reporting
  6. Communication setup — configure RS485, Wi-Fi, or cellular

Used for field troubleshooting:

  1. Connect to inverter
  2. Status screen — current production, fault summary
  3. Event log — timestamped fault and warning history
  4. Optimizer status — per-optimizer production and communication state
  5. String status — string-by-string voltage and current readings
  6. Communication status — upstream connectivity health

Used for parameter changes (lead tech authorization):

  • Grid parameters
  • Export limits (if applicable)
  • Communication settings
  • SafeDC settings
  • Country/grid code (set at commissioning, rarely changed)

SetApp — Common Field Workflows

Checking Optimizer Status

  1. Open SetApp → Connect to inverter
  2. Navigate: MaintenanceModule Monitoring
  3. View per-optimizer status grid
  4. Green = normal, Red = fault, Gray = not communicating
  5. Tap any optimizer for individual status and last-known production data

Reading the Event Log

  1. SetApp → MaintenanceEvent Log
  2. Events sorted by timestamp (most recent first)
  3. Each event shows: timestamp, code, description, duration
  4. Export log via SetApp share function if needed for records

String Voltage Check

  1. SetApp → MaintenancePower Control
  2. View DC input voltage and current by string
  3. Compare against expected values for the string size and current conditions

Common SetApp Error Codes

Code Description First Action
Arc fault (AFCI) DC arc detected Inspect all DC wiring, MC4 connections
Ground fault (GFDI) Ground fault detected Check panel frames, wiring insulation
Grid voltage high/low Grid outside parameters Wait, check utility conditions
DC over-voltage String voltage exceeds limit Check optimizer configuration, panel count
Optimizer not communicating PLC communication break Check DC string physical connections
Isolation fault Low insulation resistance Full wiring inspection required

Arc Fault and Ground Fault

These faults must be physically investigated before clearing and restarting. Do not repeatedly reset these faults without identifying the cause. Persistent arc or ground faults indicate a real wiring problem that can cause fire.

SetApp — Screenshots

Screenshots will be added as field documentation builds. Include your device screen captures in the shared photo folder with the tag setapp-screenshot.

Transition Note

SetApp will remain in use on older SolarEdge systems for the foreseeable future. Many field technicians will carry both SetApp and SolarEdge GO on their devices. The Bluetooth diagnostic workflows in this document are accurate for SetApp — the same logic applies in SolarEdge GO's local BT mode with a modernized interface.

For current deployments, refer to the SolarEdge GO documentation and use SetApp only as a fallback for legacy systems.
