SolarEdge GO — Commissioning Workflows

ACTIVE WORKFLOW

This page covers the full commissioning workflow using SolarEdge GO for new SolarEdge system installations and post-replacement verification. GO handles both local Bluetooth commissioning and cloud site registration in a single workflow.

Pre-Commissioning Checklist

Before starting GO commissioning, confirm:

  • [ ] All mechanical installation complete (panels, optimizers, inverter mounted)
  • [ ] DC wiring complete — strings wired, not yet energized
  • [ ] AC wiring complete — not yet energized
  • [ ] Optimizer serial numbers recorded (or QR codes accessible)
  • [ ] Site details available: address, system size, panel count, string configuration
  • [ ] SolarEdge GO installed and installer account logged in
  • [ ] Phone Bluetooth enabled

Commissioning Sequence

Step 1 — Create or Access the Site

  1. Open SolarEdge GO
  2. Tap SitesAdd New Site (for new installs)
  3. Enter site details:
  4. Site name / address
  5. System type
  6. Time zone
  7. Client contact (optional at this stage)
  8. For replacing a unit at an existing site: navigate to the existing site instead of creating new

Note

For pre-existing sites already in the SolarEdge monitoring portal, the site may already exist under your company account. Search before creating a duplicate.

Step 2 — Register Equipment

  1. In the site, tap CommissioningAdd Equipment
  2. Register the inverter:
  3. Scan the inverter serial number QR code, or enter manually
  4. Confirm model number matches physical unit
  5. Register optimizers:
  6. Scan QR codes from optimizer labels (physical scan via phone camera)
  7. Or use auto-discovery after energizing DC side
  8. Confirm equipment list matches actual installation

Step 3 — Connect via Bluetooth

  1. Tap Connect in GO (at the site commissioning screen)
  2. Stand within ~10 meters of the inverter
  3. GO will scan for the inverter's BLE signal
  4. Select inverter from device list
  5. Connection confirmed — local commissioning functions unlock

First-Time Pairing

First BT connection may require entering the inverter's serial number as a PIN. Have the serial number label accessible.

Step 4 — Grid Configuration

  1. GO → CommissioningGrid Settings
  2. Select country and grid code:
  3. USA: select state (grid codes vary by utility in some states)
  4. Confirm frequency (60 Hz for US)
  5. GO runs automatic grid detection to verify parameters
  6. Confirm grid parameters match utility requirements

Do Not Skip Grid Configuration

Incorrect grid parameters can cause inverter instability or regulatory non-compliance. Verify with project documentation if uncertain.

Step 5 — Optimizer Pairing

Pairing maps each physical optimizer to its monitored position in the system.

Auto-Pair Method (preferred): 1. GO → CommissioningModule Mapping 2. Energize DC strings 3. GO initiates optimizer discovery via PLC communication 4. Confirm all optimizers appear in the map

Manual QR Method: 1. GO → CommissioningModule MappingManual 2. Scan each optimizer's QR code 3. Assign to map position 4. Use this method if any optimizers don't appear in auto-discovery

Step 6 — Communication Setup

Configure how the inverter will send data to the SolarEdge cloud:

  1. GO → CommissioningCommunicationWi-Fi
  2. Select the site's Wi-Fi network
  3. Enter password (confirm with client)
  4. GO verifies connection to SolarEdge cloud
  5. Record credentials in site documentation
  1. Connect RJ45 cable from inverter to router/switch
  2. GO → CommunicationEthernet
  3. Configure DHCP or assign static IP
  4. Verify cloud connection
  1. Install SolarEdge cellular kit in inverter communication port
  2. GO → CommunicationCellular
  3. Activate SIM if required (may be pre-activated)
  4. Verify signal and cloud connection

Step 7 — Production Test

Before completing commissioning:

  1. GO → CommissioningProduction Test
  2. System will ramp up gradually
  3. Verify all optimizers show active status
  4. Check string voltage and current are in expected range
  5. Confirm no fault LEDs on inverter
  6. Allow 5–10 minutes for all optimizers to check in

Expected state after successful production test: - All optimizers: green / reporting - Inverter status: producing - Grid LED: solid green - No active alerts in GO

Step 8 — Commissioning Sign-Off

  1. GO → CommissioningComplete
  2. Review summary:
  3. Equipment registered
  4. Grid parameters confirmed
  5. Communication active
  6. All optimizers reporting
  7. Confirm site is live in GO fleet view
  8. Take a commissioning screenshot for job documentation

Post-Replacement Commissioning

When replacing a single inverter or optimizer on an existing site:

Inverter Replacement

  1. Navigate to existing site in GO
  2. Go to Equipment → remove old inverter serial number
  3. Register new inverter serial number
  4. Reconnect via Bluetooth and rerun grid configuration
  5. Optimizer pairing should be retained if PLC communication is intact
  6. Verify all optimizers re-appear after startup
  7. Confirm site resumes cloud reporting

Single Optimizer Replacement

  1. No full recommissioning needed
  2. Replace optimizer physically (see Optimizer Replacement Procedure)
  3. New optimizer auto-discovers via PLC
  4. Verify new unit appears in GO module map within a few minutes of system startup

Common Commissioning Issues

Issue Likely Cause Resolution
GO cannot find inverter via BT Range, BT off, inverter not powered Move closer; confirm DC side energized
Optimizers not appearing in auto-discovery PLC communication issue, DC string issue Check string wiring, confirm optimizers powered
Grid configuration fails validation Incorrect country/grid code Reselect and rerun detection
Communication test fails (Wi-Fi) Wrong password, weak signal, firewall Re-enter credentials; check signal strength
Commissioning sign-off blocked Missing equipment or unresolved fault Resolve fault first; re-check equipment registration
