When to Escalate — Decision Tree

Is there an immediate safety hazard?
  YES → STOP WORK. Call lead tech immediately.
        If risk to life: call 911 first.
  NO  ↓

Is the finding within your scope and training?
  YES → Proceed per SOP. Document.
  NO  ↓

Is this a finding that needs to be reported but doesn't require immediate action?
  YES → Document thoroughly. Notify lead tech before end of day.
  NO  ↓

Is the client asking you to do something outside your authorization?
  YES → Politely decline. Contact lead tech.

Escalation Triggers

Immediate — Stop Work, Call Now

  • Any sparking, arcing, or smell of burning
  • Exposed live wiring
  • Thermal runaway indicators (swelling, heat, smell from battery)
  • Roof structural concern
  • Any injury or near-miss
  • Aggressive animals
  • Threat or confrontation on site

Same-Day — Notify Before Leaving Site

  • Rodent damage to wiring (scope of damage)
  • Unexpected system configuration
  • Finding that changes the scope significantly
  • Client requests that exceed authorization
  • Any finding rated Critical or High severity

Report-Level — Document and Note in Report

  • Medium or Low severity findings
  • Out-of-scope observations noted for future visits
  • System aging or wear observations

What to Say When You Call

Give: 1. Your location (site name and address) 2. What you found 3. What you've done so far (if anything) 4. What you think the options are

Then wait for direction. Don't pre-commit to a course of action before talking to lead.
