Inverter Replacements — Field Documentation

EXPANDING

When is Inverter Replacement Required?

  • Persistent hardware fault not resolved by reset or troubleshooting
  • Physical damage (water ingress, arc damage, mechanical damage)
  • System out of warranty with repair cost exceeding replacement
  • Upgrade for capacity or feature reasons

Pre-Replacement Checklist

  • [ ] Confirm fault is inverter hardware (not optimizer, string, or grid issue)
  • [ ] Obtain warranty status from manufacturer portal (inverter serial number required)
  • [ ] If under warranty: initiate RMA before purchasing replacement
  • [ ] If out of warranty: confirm replacement model compatibility with existing system
  • [ ] Notify client: expected downtime, estimated cost, scope
  • [ ] Backup inverter configuration data if accessible

Replacement Procedure (General)

  1. Isolate system per Lockout / Tagout
  2. Verify zero voltage on all DC and AC terminals
  3. Photograph all wiring before disconnecting — especially DC string inputs, communication wiring
  4. Label all wires before removal if not already labeled
  5. Remove old inverter — note mounting pattern for new unit
  6. Install new inverter — verify mounting is secure
  7. Reconnect wiring — per your labeled/photographed reference
  8. Communication wiring — reconnect RS485, Ethernet, or other comms
  9. Commission new inverter — via SolarEdge GO (or SetApp on legacy), or manufacturer app
  10. Verify production — confirm strings reporting, system producing
  11. Documentation — serial numbers (old and new), photos, GO commissioning screenshots
